Viator cancellation policy: the 24-hour rule

Most Viator listings give a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the experience starts, local time, and no refund inside those 24 hours. Viator calls this Free Cancellation and says it covers most experiences, not all.

Viator's Terms of Use say a booking cannot be changed or canceled for a refund unless the listing allows it, and most listings do allow it up to 24 hours before the start, so rely on the cancellation line of the exact listing.

A couple booking the Vatican Museums guided tour, from $78.57 per person on October 13, 2026, can cancel for a full refund until 24 hours before; the Museums' own ticket is not refundable.

Non-refundable and group bookings

A non-refundable listing cannot be changed or canceled for any reason and shows no cancel option; the Alcatraz Inside Access Ferry and Audio Tour with Night Option is one. Group bookings through Viator's Group Bookings Department are all sales final.

How to cancel or change a Viator booking

1. Find the Cancellation Policy section on your listing or ticket and note the deadline in local time; with no explicit start time, it is generally 11:59 pm two days before.
2. Cancel through Viator's self-service options before the deadline; a cancellation counts only if made that way, and a Free Cancellation listing refunds nothing inside 24 hours.
3. Most refund requests are processed within 48 hours; a statement can take 5 to 7 business days to show it.
4. To change the date or time instead, send a change request in Manage My Booking, in most cases up to 24 hours before. Viator charges no fee for a request made in time, the operator may, success is not guaranteed, and a change can cancel a promo price.

When the operator cancels, or the weather turns

Operators can cancel for bad weather, too few travelers or operational issues, per Viator's partner documentation. After a material change that you decline, Viator's Terms give a full refund. The traveler pages read do not say what Viator refunds for a weather or low-numbers cancellation.

Operator notes can be stricter: the Pearl Harbor listing says no refund is issued if the US Navy suspends boat operations, and the Vatican listing says closures for religious ceremonies carry no refunds or discounts.

Reserve Now and Pay Later and Cancel for any reason

Reserve Now and Pay Later holds a confirmed reservation with no deposit on most listings. It needs a card and is not offered for travel more than 12 months out or within 3 days.

Viator's pages differ on when a Reserve Now and Pay Later card is charged, two days before on one page and two to nine days before, depending on the product, on another, so read the payment date on your own booking.

Cancel for any reason, a paid add-on also called the Extended Cancellation Policy, works until 1 hour before the start on standard-policy experiences, or 24 hours before on otherwise non-refundable ones. Its amount was not shown on any page read.
