Viator prices and fees: what tours cost from, taxes and the price guarantee

Viator prices: what a from-price covers

Viator prices every listing separately: there are no plans, tiers or subscription, and each listing shows a "from" price, quoted per person unless it says otherwise. As read on October 13, 2026, the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St Peter's Basilica Guided Tour started from $78.57 per person. The Viator review covers who it fits.

A from-price is a floor, not the price of your date. Viator's partner documentation, written for API partners, defines it as the lowest per-person price for a group of at least two; the traveler pages read do not define it. On six of the nine listing pages read, an Upcoming availability block lists an option priced above the from-price.

Private and group-priced listings show "Per group" or "Price varies by group size" instead, and a quoted price can change until the booking is made.

Extras grow the bill: Grand Canyon West includes lunch, the helicopter and pontoon ride and the Skywalk ticket only on the option that adds them.

Taxes, booking fees and operator extras

Viator's "How Viator works" page says you pay one total price with taxes and fees included, while its Terms of Use say prices leave out local taxes and use-fees unless the operator includes them, so read the listing and the checkout total before you pay.

Operator extras sit in each listing's exclusions: the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island listing, from $59.00 per person, leaves out small locker fees for oversized bags ($0.25). No booking or service fee line appeared on the listing and help pages read, and checkout totals were not opened, so compare the total shown at checkout.

The card statement may name Viator, Tripadvisor or Owl Payments; currency typically defaults to US dollars, and a bank may add a conversion fee.

Lowest Price Guarantee and price drops

Viator's help center says its Lowest Price Guarantee protects you if you find a lower price for the same tour or activity offered by the same provider, priced in the same currency, with one refund request per booking for price fluctuations. A traveler who sees a drop in price can submit a refund request; help articles 6 and 7 state no claim window.

Viator's help center says a Reserve Now and Pay Later booking, which needs a card but no deposit, has a rate that is locked in and cannot go up. Viator cannot apply a later price reduction to it and suggests canceling and booking again; do that only when the listing's cancellation line gives a full refund.

Pick GetYourGuide when price matching matters: its terms pay the difference when the same activity is cheaper elsewhere, with exclusions for loyalty-program offers, corporate rates and group rates. Viator vs GetYourGuide compares the two.

Cancel for any reason and Viator Rewards

Cancel for any reason is a paid add-on, which Viator's help center also calls the Extended Cancellation Policy. It must be bought at booking and cannot be added later, and its own cost is not refunded. Its amount was not shown on any page read. Viator cancellation policy covers its cut-off times.

Viator Rewards, its loyalty program, are not earned where a promotional code was used, or on a booking made through a partner, travel agent or affiliate site or link, which includes a booking started from a button on this site. They are redeemed all or none, never for the whole order, and not for cash.

Viator's Rewards page says rewards become available 24 hours after your experience in one place and 24 hours after its start time in another, so allow about a day after the tour.

Book direct when the official ticket alone is enough: the National Park Service lists the Alcatraz Day Tour ferry ticket at $47.95 for an adult 18 and over. Viator's Alcatraz Inside Access Ferry and Audio Tour with Night Option, from $90.99 per person, is a different, non-refundable product.
