Viator vs Expedia: the short answer
The same ticket can show the same price on Viator and Expedia, so the refund rules decide. Viator says it gives a full refund when you cancel at least 24 hours before most experiences, while Expedia's Terms of Service say things to do are not usually refundable unless the provider cancels.
Viator is a marketplace for tours, day trips, tickets and activities run by independent operators. Expedia's Things to do pages list activities from travel providers, and each provider's own rules apply.

Search tours on Viator →Two New York listings on both sites
On October 13, 2026, SUMMIT One Vanderbilt was listed from $48 per person on Viator's New York page and at $48 per adult on Expedia, for the dates Expedia filled in, October 27 to 28. Viator quotes per person unless a listing says otherwise and Expedia quotes per adult, so for one adult the two figures read the same.
The Statue of Liberty tours show a gap. Viator's Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island Tour with Reserved Ferry Entry, supplied by ExperienceFirst, was from $59.00 per person. Expedia's Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island Tour was $69 per adult, taxes and fees included, and its operator was not matched to ExperienceFirst. The two are similar tours, not proof that one site charges more.
| Term | Viator | Expedia |
|---|---|---|
| SUMMIT One Vanderbilt ticket | From $48 per person | $48 per adult |
| Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island tour | From $59.00 per person, ExperienceFirst | $69 per adult, taxes and fees included; operator not matched |
| Refunds | Full refund up to 24 hours before, on most | Terms: not usually refundable; the Statue listing showed free cancellation |
| Price basis | Per person unless the listing says otherwise | Per adult |
| Rewards | Viator Rewards: not earned through partner or affiliate links | OneKeyCash for signed-in members |
Refunds: Expedia terms against the listing
Expedia's Terms of Service, as read on October 13, 2026, say things to do are not usually transferable or eligible for refunds or changes unless the provider cancels, and that providers may charge fees to cancel or change a booking.
Yet Expedia's New York results showed "Free cancellation available" on the Statue of Liberty tour, and its New York guide promises free cancellation on many activities, not all. The terms and the listing differ, so the listing's own line decides.
Viator shows a Cancellation Policy section on every listing, and some listings are non-refundable. Its Terms add that no refund is available once an experience has started, and that a no-show gets none. On Expedia, some providers also require you to sign a liability waiver before the activity.
Price basis and rewards
Viator's Terms quote each price per person unless the listing says otherwise, and a quote can change until the booking is made. Expedia prices activities per adult. Expedia's results page says you can earn OneKeyCash on each activity by signing in.
Viator Rewards are earned after the experience and used toward a later booking. Viator's Rewards page says they are not earned when a booking is made through a partner, travel agent or affiliate site or link, so a booking started from a button on this site earns none.
Who should pick Viator or Expedia
- Expedia for a traveler who already books flights or hotels there and wants to earn OneKeyCash on activities by signing in.
- Viator for a traveler who wants a 24-hour refund default on most listings from a marketplace built around tours.
